Spicy Beef Poppers with Honey Cilantro Dipping Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 4 jalapeños, core and seeds removed, finely minced
  • 12 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 cups flour
  • 6 eggs, whisked together
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 8 oz sour cream
  • 2 TB cilantro, freshly minced
  • 2 TB honey
  • 1 lime, juice and zest

Instructions

  1. Combine beef, peppers, cheese, salt, pepper and mustard seeds. Portion into 2 oz meat balls, in the shape of a popper or football shape.
  2. Create breading station by using a separate dish for eggs, flour and breadcrumbs.
  3. Dip each meatball or popper into the breading station starting with flour, followed by the egg wash and then breadcrumbs. Set aside.
  4. Fry in a deep fat fryer OR place in an air fryer at 400 F for 12-13 minutes or until meatballs reach an internal temperature of 160 F.
  5. To make the dipping sauce, combine sour cream, cilantro, honey and lime juice and zest. Blend until well combined.
  6. Once meatballs are cooked, serve with dipping sauce.
